About

Pages of Purpose brings teams together to design, build, and decorate a one-of-a-kind bookshelf that will ultimately be donated to a local community in need. The experience begins with a group brainstorm, encouraging everyone to pitch creative ideas before dividing into two working teams.

One half of the group takes on the role of muralists, crafting a themed backdrop that will frame the finished bookshelf. Meanwhile, the other half dives into a hands-on decoupage workshop, learning techniques they will immediately apply to transform the shelf into a genuine piece of art.

Once the creative work is complete, each team shares the story and meaning behind their design before the finished bookshelf is donated to a local organization, turning creativity into lasting community impact.

Learning outcomes

Pages of Purpose raises awareness about the vital role resources play in education, showing how a simple, hands-on project can make a meaningful difference in under-resourced communities and the organizations that support them. Teams leave with a deeper appreciation for how small, collective actions can address real gaps in access to books and learning materials.

Beyond the craft itself, participants practice creative problem-solving, resourceful collaboration, and clear communication as they divide roles, learn new artistic techniques, and bring a shared vision to life. The experience also encourages groups to think beyond the day of the activity, as teams can continue collecting books to keep the donated shelves stocked over time, building an ongoing relationship with the community they support and creating a connection that lasts well beyond the event itself.
